Patrick Michael “Mike” Callahan age 67, of Knoxville and formerly of Chariton, passed away Saturday, June 27, 2015, surrounded by his family, at the Knoxville Hospital and Clinics. A graveside service for Mike will be held at 11:00 A.M., July 2, 2015 at Calvary Cemetery of Chariton, with Rev. Christopher Pisut officiating. Mike’s family will be greeting friends from 9:00 A.M., until service time at the Fielding Funeral Home of Chariton. Mike was born January 28, 1948, in Burlington, Iowa, to Edward and Virginia (McKinney) Callahan. Mike was raised in Russell, Iowa, and graduated from Russell High School, Class of 1966. Soon after high school Mike began working at Johnson Machine Works as a welder. Mike worked at Johnson Machine Works until his retirement and he was known for his blue print expertise. In the late 1960’s Mike and Barb were married and they were blessed with three children: Mary, Angela, and Lori. They later divorced. Later, Mike married Shirley and they were blessed with four children: Robert, April, Mike, and Katie. Mike was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Chariton. He enjoyed painting pictures, working on vehicles, fishing, and was a talented welder. He lived most of his life in Lucas County. Several years were spent in Knoxville and he enjoyed his friends from the Knoxville Rest Home. Mike is survived by his seven children: Mary Grissett, Angela (Victor) Sepeda, Lori (Doug) Baker, Robert Callahan, April (Bryon) Wolfe, Mike Callahan, and Katie (Stephen) Visser; and several grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mike is also survived by his mother, Virginia Callahan; two brothers, Bill (Judy) Callahan, Steve (Marlene) Callahan; and five sisters, Carolyn Evens, Julie (Jim) Askren, Christina (Greg) Stonecipher, Pam Callahan, and Sonia (Tony) Lobozzetta. Mike was preceded in death by his father, Edward Callahan; two sisters in infancy, Adina Lynn and Jana Margaret Callahan; his son-in-law, Jay T. Grissett; one granddaughter, Halia; and one brother-in-law, Bob Evens. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established towards Mike’s cemetery monument and may be given to his family.
