James "Jim" Sevier

James Thomas “Jim” Sevier, age 70, of Knoxville, passed away late Wednesday afternoon, September 9, 2015, at his home in Knoxville. Visitation will begin at 11:00 A.M., Monday, September 14, 2015 at the Winfield Funeral Home of Knoxville. Jim’s family will be present at the funeral home from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M., Monday evening. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, September 15, 2015 at the Winfield Funeral Home of Knoxville, with Pastor Brent Hanna officiating. Following services burial will be held at Graceland Cemetery of Knoxville. He was born on December 11, 1944 in Milan, Missouri, to James Wilson “J.W.” and Lucy Roberta (Collins) Sevier. Jim attended Walnut Grove Country School and later attended and graduated from Milan High School, Class of 1962. After high school Jim attended North East Missouri State Teachers College and he graduated with a degree in education in 1966. During Jim’s teaching career he also obtained his masters degree in education and industrial Arts. After Jim graduated from college he began teaching for the Twin Cedars Schools in September of 1966. He taught Industrial Arts at Twin Cedars for 37 years. Jim also co-owned and operated the Knoxville Car Wash for 36 years. Jim was a longtime masonic Lodge member in Milan, Missouri and Jim had a talent and passion for cars, especially Ford Mustangs. He was also a member of the South Central Iowa Mustang Club. Jim enjoyed being outdoors and was an excellent yard keeper. Jim is survived by his wife of almost 31 years Deborah Sevier of Knoxville; his children, grandchildren and great-grandchild: Lisa Curnes of Knoxville and her children Alex and Gabe; Jamie Prins of Phoenix, AZ and her children Carly and Cole; Stacie Spaur of Des Moines and her children Taylor, Nathan, Tristan and Taylor’s child Koda; and Jason Sevier and his wife Meredith of Phoenix, AZ and their child Grant. Jim is also survived by his mother-in-law, Lavon Lanphier; one brother Gail Sevier and wife Alvina; one sister Barbara Johnson and husband Gordon; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded by his parents J.W. and Lucy Sevier. A memorial in Jim’s memory will be established by the family for the Twin Cedars Dollars for Scholars.
