Dennis Ross Walter age 71 of Knoxville, IA passed away Thursday evening, March 22, 2018, at the Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Sunday, March 25, 2018 at the Winfield Funeral Home in Knoxville. Dennis’ family will be greeting friends from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M., Sunday evening. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, March 26, 2018 at the Winfield Funeral Home in Knoxville. Private family burial will be held at a later date. Dennis was born on May 21, 1946 in Ottumwa, Iowa. He is the first-born son of Roscoe Wayne and Lois Maxine (Clark) Walter. Dennis was raised in Lovilia with his sibblings; Harry, Connie, and Kevin. He attended Lovilia School and graduated from Albia High School, Class of 1964. After high school Dennis worked for a short time at his father’s coal company, known as, Walter Coal Company. Then he went to work at the Continental Overall Factory in Knoxville before beginning to work at Pella Corp. Dennis started at Pella Corp in 1966 and worked with the company for over 30 years, retiring in June of 1998. On October 14, 1966 at the Lovilia United Methodist Church, Dennis and Susan Diane Smith were united in marriage. Dennis and Susan started their married lives together in Knoxville. They lived in Knoxville since 1966 and were blessed with their daughter Kelli. Dennis and Susan shared over 51 years of marriage before Dennis’ passing. Dennis was a very loving family man. He enjoyed watching NASCAR, and the Iowa Hawkeyes. His greatest enjoyment was his family and his grandson, Brian William. Dennis is survived by his loving wife of over 51 years Susan Walter of Knoxville; his daughter Kelli Schroeder and husband William of Kansas City, MO; and one grandson Brian William Schroeder. He is also survived by his three siblings, Harry Walter and wife Jane of Newton, Connie Lane and husband Mark of Knoxville, and Kevin Walter and wife Toni of Albia. Dennis is preceded in death by his parents, Roscoe Wayne and Lois Maxine Walter. Memorial contributions can be made to the Knoxville Fire & Rescue or the Marion County Sherriff’s Department Canine Program. Winfield Funeral Home is assisting Dennis’ family with services.
