Twyla Sockriter

Twyla Fern Sockriter was born on December 2, 1925 in rural Clarke County, Iowa to Frank and Jessie (McCann) Crandall. Twyla graduated from Indianola High School, class of 1945. After high school Twyla worked for a short time at the Ammunition Factory in Newton, before working at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Knoxville. While working at the VA Hospital she met Clarence W. Sockriter, Jr. On May 7, 1947 they married. They shared 19 years of marriage, and were blessed with seven children. Clarence died on January 27, 1967. Twyla raised her family and later she worked as a home health care aid and retired from Westridge Nursing Home in Knoxville. She was a member of St. Anthony?s Catholic Church, and St. Anthony?s Altar and Rosary Society. Twyla enjoyed volunteering and was gifted at knitting. Twyla passed away on Thursday, May 20, 2010 at the Knoxville Area Community Hospital at the age of 84 years, five months, and 19 days. She was preceded in death by her parents Frank and Jessie; three brothers; and one sister. Twyla is survived by her children, Gailand (Linda) Sockriter of Knoxville, Carol (Peter) Langstraat of Hart, MI, John (Pam) Sockriter of Newton, James Sockriter of Knoxville, Ruby (Wesley) Johnson of Eddyville, Rose Collier of Des Moines, and Ron Sockriter of Knoxville; 11 grandchildren; and four great grandchildren. Twyla is also survived by one sister, Rose Marie Scarpino of Des Moines.
