Shirley Ann DeHeer age 80, of Knoxville, passed away Wednesday morning, April 22, 2015, at the Westridge Nursing & Rehabilitation Center of Knoxville. Visitation will begin at 12:00 Noon, Friday, April 24, 2015 at the Winfield Funeral Home of Knoxville. Shirley’s family will be present at the funeral home from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M., Friday evening. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 A.M., Saturday, April 25, 2015 at the Winfield Funeral Home of Knoxville, with Elder Bill McDonald officiating. Following services burial will be held at Ruckman Cemetery of rural Knoxville. Shirley was born in Tomah, Wisconsin on March 4, 1935 to Henry and Veina (Waege) Zellmer, Jr. She moved to Pershing, Iowa in 1947, where she lived until 1955. She attended Attica School and graduated with the Class of 1953. Shirley worked in several restaurants in Knoxville, before and after her marriage. She married Leroy “Sox” DeHeer on October 29, 1955 in Knoxville, Iowa. Shirley enjoyed playing cards, camping and her flower garden. She is preceded in death by her grandparents; her parents, Henry and Veina; her son Todd DeHeer; one sister, Joyce Mason; and two brothers, Kenny and Richard “Dick” Zellmer. Shirley is survived by her husband of 59 years Leroy “Sox” DeHeer of Knoxville; three sons, Scott DeHeer of Knoxville, Mark DeHeer and wife Sandy of Leighton, and Wade DeHeer and wife Diana of Melcher-Dallas; and one daughter, Valerie Edwards and Dustin DeWitt of Oskaloosa; 11 grandchildren, Tonya Lee, Tanya Smith, Nathan DeHeer, Derek DeHeer, Brooks DeHeer, Dylan DeHeer, Tara Bunner, Sara Foust, Cole Edwards, Kirsti Edwards, and Kaden Edwards; and nine great-grandchildren. Shirley is also survived by her brother, Donald (Sandra Zellmer of Bussey, and her half-brother, Donald (Carrie) Merk of Pittsmith, WI.
