Richard Lee “Dick” Rose age 85, of Knoxville, passed away Sunday morning, November 30, 2014 at the Knoxville Hospital. Richard’s wishes were to be cremated and a visitation will begin at 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, December 2, 2014 at the Winfield Funeral Home. Dick’s family will be present at the funeral home from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M., Tuesday evening A memorial service will be held at 10:30 A.M., Wednesday, December 3, 2014 at the Winfield Funeral Home of Knoxville, with Pastors Brent Hanna and Lane Riggle officiating. A private family burial will be held at a later date at the Graceland Cemetery of Knoxville. Richard was born December 6, 1928, in Attica, Iowa, the son of Glen and Mary Elizabeth (Harvey) Rose. Richard was raised in the country and farmed with his family. He was active in high school basketball, baseball and 4H. He graduated from Attica High School, Class of 1946. On November 24, 1949 in Bussey, Iowa, Richard and Betty Darlene Rodgers were united in marriage. They have shared 65 years of marriage before Richard’s passing and were blessed with three children: Diane, Debbie and Darl. Richard enjoyed farming with his father and they farmed together until 1990; he drove a school bus for 10 years; he and his son managed the Pop Shoppe in Knoxville for many years; he repaired windows at Avery’s Harware and he was last employed with H.U.D. Richard loved and enjoyed his family. He was on the twin Cedar’s School Board for 12 years; he was a former A.S.C. board member and he played and watched men’s fast pitch softball all his life. Richard is survived by his wife of 65 years, Darlene Rose of Knoxville; his children, Diane (Terry) Lambirth of Attica, Debbie (Doug) Phipps of Knoxville and Darl (Karen) Rose of Attica; seven grandchildren, Julie Lambirth, Kelly (Corey) Knudson, Kristen (Dan) Graves, Abby (Sonny) Prichard, Brianna (Seth) Poffenbarger, Glen Rose and Seth Rose; and one great-grandson Henry Phipps Knudson. He was preceded in death by his parents, Glen and Mary Rose; two grandsons, Nathan Ryan and Alex Judson Lambirth and one brother Randall (Dorothy) Rose. A memorial in Richard’s memory has been established to the First United Methodist / KNIA Radio Ministry. Condolences may be sent to www.winfieldfh.com.
