Paul “Junior” Pottorff, age 87, of Knoxville, formerly of Hamilton, passed away Thursday, April 27, 2017, at Westridge Specialty Care of Knoxville, Iowa. Visitation for Junior will be held from 11:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M., Sunday, April 30, 2017 at Winfield Funeral Home in Knoxville. JR’s family will be present from 4:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M., Sunday evening. A funeral service for Junior will be held at 10:30 A.M., Monday, May 01, 2017 at Winfield Funeral Home, with Pastor Judd Nelson to officiate. A burial with military honors will be held at Hamilton Cemetery in Hamilton, Iowa. Junior was born on June 11, 1929, in Marysville, Iowa, to Paul D. and Ella Loretta (Wagaman) Pottorff. He graduated from Lovilia High School. In 1947, he enlisted in the United States Navy and served four years as an Electrician for Air Carriers. After the service, Junior worked at John Morrell in Ottumwa, and doing Construction prior to his employment at 3M as a Supervisor in the Milling Department. Junior retired in 1992. On June 16, 1951, Junior was united in marriage to Barbara Jean Mattise, and to this union two children were born, Sandra and Tim. Junior and Barb raised their family in Hamilton and lived there over 65 years. They enjoyed traveling, watching fast pitch softball and taking vacations together with family and friends. Junior loved being outdoors and in the woods. He was an avid deer, turkey, and moral mushroom hunter. He took great pride in gardening, caring of the Hamilton Cemetery, and the Iowa Hawkeyes. Junior is survived by his wife, Barbara Pottorff, two children; Sandra (Pat) Dyer of Knoxville, Tim Pottorff of Knoxville; five grandchildren, Stephanie (Scott) Vickroy, Katy (Rob) Burton, Rebecca (Michael Dawson) Pottorff, Mallory Pottorff, Trey (Emily Klootwyk) Pottorff; one step grandson, Kevin Dyer; seven great-grandchildren, Skyler Spaur, Colton Spaur, Lauren Burton, CJ Burton, Olen VanSant, Evan, Garrett and baby girl Dawson; and one great great-grandson, Zadik Spaur; and one sister, Margeurite (Rollie) Markle of Newton. Junior is preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Helen Bates; and one brother, Bud Pottorff. Memorials may be made to the family for various organizations that will be determined on a later date.
