Mary (Parker) Wright, age 82 of Knoxville, Iowa died Tuesday, September 27, 2016, at Westridge Nursing & Rehabilitation Center of Knoxville. A visitation for Mary will be held from 12:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Friday, September 30, 2016 at the Winfield Funeral Home of Knoxville. Mary’s family will be greeting friends from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m., Friday evening at the funeral home. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 1, 2016, at the Winfield funeral Home of Knoxville. Private family burial will be held at a later date. Mary was born September 4, 1934 at home in Bussey, Iowa on the daughter of Earl and Marge (Little) Parker. She attended school in Bussey and played basketball where one season the girls’ basketball team played in the state tournament. Mary worked most of her life. She began as a teenager working at Beulah’s Café and later she worked several jobs including throughout her life including working at: Younkers, a beautician, Pella Corp, Mercy Trauma Center, a fishing tour guide and a health care assistant. Mary retired at the age of 76. On August 17, 1979, at the Independent Bible Church in Bussey, Mary and John Wright were united in marriage. They resided in Knoxville until John retired from Mid-American Energy. They retired and moved to Louisiana where they were both fish tour guides at Toledo Bend. They always competed against one another to see who would catch the biggest Bass. Mary usually won the friendly competition and she loved it. They shared a wonderful marriage together until John passed on November 6, 1994. After John’s death Mary stayed in Toledo Bend waitressing for a family friend for one year before moving back to Iowa and her family. Mary always stayed very active. Besides being a lifelong and very talented fisher she also enjoyed golfing, casinos, reading, Danielle Steel movies, cooking and baking. Mary is survived by her two children: Randy (Becky) Pearson and Pam Jones all of Knoxville; six grandchildren, Miranda Garcia, Rory Pearson, Rhonda Pearson, Marcus Pearson, Brandon (Melissa) Johnson, and Zach Jones; eight great-grandchildren; and one great great-grandchild. Mary is also survived by her three brothers, Fred Parker of Knoxville, Tom (Nancy) Parker of Bussey, Dee (Rita) Parker of Bussey; and her sister Sally Laird of Knoxville; several nieces, nephews, and many friends. Mary is preceded in death by her husband John Wright; her parents, Earl and Marge Parker; two sisters, Goldie in infancy and Myrna (Ted) Spaur; two brothers, Bill (Gerri) Parker and Lyle (Jeannean) Parker; two sisters-in-law, Shirley and Marlene Parker and her mother-in-law Myrtie Wright.
