Linda Sue Cowman Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Linda S. Cowman, age 73 of Knoxville passed away Monday evening, April 14, 2014, at the Knoxville Hospital of Knoxville. Linda was born in Hannibal, Missouri on September 30, 1940, the daughter of William S. “Bud” and Dorothy L. (Graham) Moore. Linda’s family moved to Des Moines at the age of five and later moved to West Des Moines where she attended and graduated from Valley High School, Class of 1959. After high school Linda attended Grandview for a semester and then went to and graduated from the Americana Beauty School. In 1960 Linda and her family moved to Knoxville. Linda met Howard T. Cowman and on June 16, 1962 at the First United Methodist Church were united in marriage. They shared over 51 years of marriage and were blessed with four girls: Rhonda, Candi, Carrie and Coffie. Linda worked as a beautician in Knoxville at the Charm Center; she was also the bookkeeper for Howard’s business, Décor Furniture. Linda worked for 36 years with the Knoxville school system and began as a lunch ticket puncher at the North Star School. For many years she was a junior high study hall teacher and later was a middle school office monitor. Linda had many hobbies and was always willing to have a good time. She was a talented seamstress, quilter and liked to paint ceramics. She was a good poker player and enjoyed gambling. She was an avid Hawkeye fan and devoted Knoxville Panther. Her love was her family, especially her grandchildren. Linda and Howard had many family vacations and travels. Linda is survived by her husband of over 51 years Howard Cowman; three daughters, Rhonda (Jeff) Hileman, Candi (Tom) Stevens and Coffie Cowman all of Knoxville; six grandchildren, Zach (Jill) Geery, Luke Hileman, Gretchen Hileman, Lance Holmes, Matti Holmes and Abbi Holmes; one great-grandchild, Brooklin Geery; and one grand cat, Mickey. She is also survived by her sister, Sherry Gray of West Des Moines. Linda was preceded by her daughter, Carrie Caye Cowman; her parents, William “Bud” and Dorothy Moore; and two sisters, Stephanie Abraham and Sandi Laidlaw. Linda’s wishes were to be cremated and a Celebration of Life memorial gathering, with Linda’s family present, will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., Sunday, April 27, 2014, at the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame & Museum of Knoxville. At 3:00 p.m. on Sunday there will be a time of sharing special memories of Linda. A memorial has been established in Linda’s name for the Grand Theatre or a bench to be placed in Linda’s memory at the Ken Locke Stadium. Condolences may be sent to www.winfieldfh.com.
