Lee Cay Ewoldt Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Lee Cay Ewoldt, age 88, of Knoxville, Iowa, passed away on Monday, February 21, 2022, at Westridge Specialty Care in Knoxville. Visitation for Lee will be held on Friday, March 11, 2022, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Knoxville from 9:00 A.M. to 10:00 A.M. with his family present to greet friends and relatives. Funeral services will begin at 10:00 A.M. Burial with military honors will be held at 2:00 P.M., at the Iowa Veteran’s Cemetery in Adel. Lee was born on April 6, 1933, in Grand Island, Nebraska, the son of Cay and Eda (Springsguth) Ewoldt. Lee attended high school there, and following school, joined the United States Air Force. He served in Pusan, South Korea, and later Spain until his discharge. After his honorable service, Lee attended Nebraska State Teacher’s College and obtained his teaching degree. He taught High School Industrial Arts and Driver’s Education in Nebraska, before accepting a position at the Knoxville V. A. Hospital as an Education Therapist. Lee retired from the hospital as the Director of Voluntary Services, in 1993. Lee was united in marriage to Kathryn Sobieszyk for 25 years. They were blessed with three daughters, Cindy, Sandy, and Jeanie. Lee was a faithful member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church and was active with the Iowa Easter Seals and N.A.R.F.E. He enjoyed sprint car races, hunting, and fishing and he is remembered by family and friends as generous and kind. Lee’s greatest enjoyment was his family. Those left to cherish his memory include his children, Cindy Wisner, of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, Sandy Coon, of Knoxville, Iowa, and Jeanie (Larry) Ball of Knoxville; four grandchildren, Jamie (Jacee) Ball, Christina (Cody) Moore, Madison (Zach) Matthews, and Jonathan Wisner; also, three great-grandchildren, Liam, Rynlee, and Bowen. Lee is also survived by his brother George Ewoldt. Lee is preceded in death by his parents, Cay and Eda Ewoldt; sister, Eva Jean Fisher; son-in-law, Robert Wisner; nephew, Steve Fisher; and niece, Tammy Ewoldt. Memorials may be given in Lee’s memory towards a scholarship in Lee’s name. The Winfield Funeral Home in Knoxville is assisting Lee’s family with arrangements.
