LeRoy Woollums

Leroy Russell Woollums, age 82 of Albia passed away Tuesday, January 5, 2010, at the Monroe County Hospital in Albia. LeRoy was born on December 7, 1927 in Wapello County, Iowa to Russell and Juanita (Collett) Woollums. He was in the U.S. Marines and served in the Korean War. LeRoy married Darlene Woods on December 25, 1948. They shared 61 wonderful years of marriage before LeRoy?s passing. After working 37 years at John Deere in Ottumwa, he retired, but still enjoyed farming with his brother Jack and caring for his own cows and calves. Leroy was a member of the American Legion for 62 years. He enjoyed gardening and traveling with his wife. LeRoy was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Vicki Jo; one sister, Wanda Selby; one brother, Jack; one grandson, Paul Joseph and one son-in-law, David Fleener. LeRoy is survived by his wife; Darlene; his children, Carroll (Kathy) Woollums of Albia, Peggy (Dick) Christenson of Russell, Cindy (Ron) Underwood of Albia, Kathy Fleener of Albia, Sherry (John) Illingworth of Klamath Falls, Oregon, and Brad (Tammy) Woollums of Pleasantville; 14 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and 1 great- great grandchild. He is also survived by four brother, Vercil Woollums of Ottumwa, Edward Woollums of Drakesville, Warren Woollums, and Freddie Woollums both of Albia; two sisters, Patricia Anderson of Ottumwa, and Judy Bequeaith of New London, Missouri, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins and many longtime friends. In lieu of flower, the family request memorials to the Welcome Home Soldiers Fund.
