Eugene Simbro, age 91 of Knoxville passed away Saturday afternoon, February 14, 2015, at the Hospice Comfort House of Pella. Eugene’s wishes were to be cremated and a celebration of his life will be held at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, February 21, 2015 at the Community of Christ Church, 714 Willetts Drive, of Knoxville, with Elder Bill McDonald officiating. Following services Eugene’s family will be greeting friends and everyone is invited to stay for refreshments. A private family burial will be held at a later date at Graceland Cemetery of Knoxville. Eugene was born in Dunreath, Iowa on February 12, 1924, the twin son of Charles and Alta (Baker) Simbro. Eugene was raised in the Swan area and he also attended school in Swan. On March 22, 1942 in Missouri Eugene and Gladys Faye Stoner were united in marriage. Eugene and Gladys have been blessed with over 72 years of marriage and three children: Nancy, Kenneth and Millie. Eugene farmed and lived in Marion County most of his life. He and Gladys lived in many towns in Jasper County as Eugene worked on different farms. In the late 1950’s Eugene and Gladys settled down to a farm in Marion County, where Eugene farmed until late 2014. In late 2014 Eugene and Gladys moved to the Homestead Assisted Living in Knoxville. All of Eugene’s life he enjoyed his family, especially his grandkids, and fishing. He and his family camped and listened to blue grass music for many years. Eugene was also a talented and dedicated 12 point pitch player. Eugene is survived by his wife Gladys of Knoxville; two children, Nancy (Gordon) Mecham and Kenneth (Pam) Simbro, Sr. all of Pleasantville; 13 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren and 5 great great-grandchildren. Eugene is also survved by his three brothers, Ronald (Gail) Simbro, Jim Simbro and Charles (Bunny) Simbro and one sister, Sharon (Ray) Wetterling. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Alta; his daughter, Millie DeJoode; one grandson, Jeff Mecham; four sisters, Betty Shinn, Viola Detrick, Mary Ellen Paul and his twin sister Arlene Hicks; and three brothers, Leroy, Burton and Raymond Simbro. A memorial in Eugene’s memory has been established to the Hospice Comfort House of Pella. Condolences may be sent to www.winfieldfh.com.
