Douglas “Doug” Dean Besler, age 64, of Knoxville and formerly of Cedar Rapids, Iowa passed away Saturday, July 26, 2014 at the Knoxville Hospital E.R. of Knoxville. Doug was born on November 9, 1949, the son of Arthur and Anna (Lammers) Besler. Doug was raised in Cedar Rapids and graduated from high school in 1967. Following graduation Doug served in the United States Navy and later transferred to the United States Marine Corp. Doug served his country during the Vietnam War as a Dental Medic. After his service Doug worked as a Dental Hygienist in Iowa City. One of Doug’s favorite pastimes was scratch tickets. Doug is survived by his sister Diane Kamp of Marion; and two nephews, Kevin Kamp and Denney Strathman. He was preceded in death by his parents Arthur and Anna; his sister Barbara Strathman and one brother John Besler. Doug’s memorial service will be held at 12:00 noon, Thursday, July 31, 2014 at the Knoxville Residential. A private family burial will be held at a later date at the Mt. Calvary Cemetery of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Following Doug’s memorial service the family has invited friends to stay and share in a pizza lunch. Condolences may be sent to www.winfieldfh.com.
