Donald Steele

Donald Eugene Steele was born on February 4, 1927 in Fredrick, Iowa to Otto D. and Wilmith (Swank) Steele. Donald was raised and taught in Monroe county and graduated from Eddyville High School in 1945. After high school Donald served in the U.S. Air Force, during WWII as a tail gunner during the Pacific Theatre in Okinawa. After his service to his country Don worked and operated the D & D Truck Stop in Albia, and Don?s DX. From 1976 to 1991 Don was also a rural mail route carrier in Monroe County. On October 31, 1968 Don married Allene Belcher. Don and Allene shared 34 years of marriage before Allene died on December 26, 2002. On April 3, 2003 in Knoxville Don married Leona Fay Ethell. They enjoyed seven years of marriage together. Donald passed away on Wednesday, September 8, 2010, at the Knoxville Area Community Hospital at the age of 83 years, seven months, and 4 days. Donald was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Allene; three sons, Timothy, Randy, and Daniel Steele; one daughter, Tina Steele; and one brother, Delbert Steele. He is survived by his wife Leona Steele of Knoxville; three children, Myra Steele of Des Moines, Vicky (Steven) Ethell of Knoxville, and Mickey Steele of Albuquerque, NM; 11 grandchildren; and one great granddaughter. Don is also survived by one sister, Mary (Paul) Lewis of Beacon.
