Billy "Bill" Gene Forcht

Winfield Funeral Home, Knoxville ~ Iowa, 641 842-5126 DATELINE: Knoxville, Iowa Billy Gene Forcht age 71 of Knoxville, Iowa, passed away August 5, 2015, at his home in Knoxville. Per Bill’s wishes a private family service, with military honors, will be held at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery of Adel, Iowa. Bill was born in Menlo, Iowa on September 23, 1943 to Clarence O. and Mildred Opal (Cline) Forcht. Bill attended school at Menlo and also school in Cedar Rapids, where he graduated from Jefferson High School. After high school Bill served in the United States Air Force as a mechanic. He served two tours in Vietnam. In June of 1971, in Knoxville, Iowa, Bill and Phyllis Joan Carsner were united in marriage. They shared over 44 years of marriage together before Bill’s passing. Bill was a mechanic all his life. He was a heavy equipment mechanic in Alabama for several years. He also worked for many years in maintenance at Vermeer’s in Pella, until his retirement. Bill was a member of the American Legion, Baty-Tucker Post #168. He enjoyed the outdoors, woodworking, furniture building and refinishing, history and western T.V. Shows. Bill greatly enjoyed and loved his family. Bill is survived by his wife Phyllis Forcht of Knoxville; his children, Mary Kennedy of Knoxville, Brenda Brown of Knoxville, and Mitchell “Mick” and wife Kim Bassett of Deatsville, Alabama; 10 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren, and 15 great great-grandchildren. Bill is also survived by two brothers and one sister. He was preceded in death by his parents; one granddaughter, Mikki Followill; and two brothers.
