Billie Joe Sissel age 76, of Knoxville, passed away Saturday morning, March 21, 2015, at the V.A. Medical Center of Des Moines. Visitation will begin at 3:00 P.M., Monday, March 23, 2015 at the Winfield Funeral Home of Knoxville. Bill’s family will be present at the funeral home from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M., Monday evening. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, March 24, 2015 at the Winfield Funeral Home of Knoxville, with Pastors Mary Roozeboom and Bruce Reitveld officiating. Following services burial will be held at Graceland Cemetery. Bill was born February 3, 1939 in Livonia, Missouri, the son of John Howard and Ola Fairl (Smith) Sissel. Bill was raised in Ottumwa and graduated from Ottumwa High School. Bill served his country in the United States Air Force as a teletype operator from June of 1957 to June of 1960. He served stateside for two years and one year Bill was stationed in Morocco. On January 31, 1962 in Ottumwa, Iowa, Bill and Janice Lynn Warner were united in marriage. They shared over 53 years of marriage together and were blessed with four children: Julie, Bryan, Stacie, and Sue. After his service Bill worked a short time as a mechanic in a tire shop before beginning his career with Hy-Vee. Bill worked as a baker and later managed Hy-Vee bakeries. He retired in 2004 and moved to Knoxville. Bill attended the Riverside Community Church and was also a former member of the First Christian Church. He enjoyed reading westerns and the bible, watching John Wayne movies, and loved being outdoors doing yardwork. Bill is survived by his wife Janice Sissel of Knoxville; three daughters, Julie (Jim) Friday of Lacona, Stacie Garnatz of Ankeny, and Sue (Terry) Putman of Moline, Illinois; one son, Bryan Sissel of Ottumwa; seven grandchildren, Cory (Amy) Friday, Mallory Putman, Cody Friday, Jessica Sissel, Madelyn Putman, Shawna Sissel, and John Garnatz; and one great-granddaughter, Cecilia Putman. Bill is also survived by his brother, Ronald Sissel of Arkansas and his sister Mary Kenney of Washington. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Ola Sissel and his brother, Harold Sissel.
