Betty Linden

Betty Vander Linden was born on September 16, 1927 in Knoxville, Iowa to Joseph and Mary Elizabeth (Melia) Polito. Betty was raised and worked on the family farm and attended Attica High School. On January 1, 1948 in Knoxville, Iowa Betty and Paul Ellis Vander Linden were married. They shared 57 years of marriage and were blessed with two children Paul ?Butch? Jr., and Carolyn. Betty loved her family and farming all her life. She bowled and also danced. Betty also worked a concession stand at the Knoxville raceway for over 30 years. She lived most of her life in Marion County. She had moved to Collins, Iowa, and in the most recent years lived with her granddaughter, Dianna, and their family. Betty passed away at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames, Iowa on Thursday, February 3, 2011 at the age of 83 years, four months, and 16 days. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Paul; her son Paul ?Butch? Vander Linden, Jr.; and one granddaughter Marilyn Murphy. Betty was also preceded by one infant twin brother Louis Polito and two sisters Josephine Polito and Mary Melia. Betty is survived by her daughter Carolyn (John) Murphy; daughter in law Leslie Vander Linden all of Knoxville; four grandchildren, Patrick (Ceann) Murphy, Dianna (Dan) Jordan, Kenny (Stephanie) Vander Linden and Tiffani (Tom) Weldon; and 10 great grandchildren. Betty is also survived by 2 brothers in law, Dale (Judy) Vander Linden, Ray Vander Linden; and 3 sisters in law Edna Nelson, Lucille (Joe) Urias, and Sandra Williams.
