Angelo ?Tony? E. Sebben , age 99, of Albia, died early Saturday morning June 13, 2009, at the Monroe Care Center in Albia, Iowa. Tony was born on October 27, 1909 to Angelo and Delitta (DelVesco) Sebben in Avery, Iowa. Tony grew up and attended school in Avery. He began working at a young age to help his family before serving his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. Tony served from 1943 to 1945. He was in the second wave of the Normandy Invasion. During his service he received numerous ribbons and medals, including four bronze stars, and the Croix DeGuerre with a gold palm from the French government. Tony worked and enjoyed working all his life. He was a coalminer, a carpenter, he built homes, and set trailers, and also was a cemetery caretaker. Tony loved to garden and keep active outdoors. Tony was a member and past commander of the American Legion, Howard Cessna Post #136, the VFW, and the 40/8 all of Albia. He was also a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Albia. Tony is survived by his Children, Susan D. Gray of Fort Myers, Florida, and Tony Sebben of Albia; Tony is also survived by 4 grandchildren; and 1 great-grandchild; two sisters, Alberta Whitson of Albia, and Harriet Ethel of Knoxville. Tony was preceded in death by his parents, Angelo and Delitta Sebben; and three brothers, Lewis, John, and Joseph; and five sisters, Mary, Bernice, Flora, Eva, and Doris A memorial has been established to Hospice of Central Iowa, Monroe Care Center, or to the Welcome Home Solider Memorial.
