Catherine Lucille (Chilcote) Havener, age 86, of Knoxville passed away Tuesday morning, October 10, 2017 at the Pella Regional Health Center of Pella. A celebration of Catherine’s life will be held at 2:00 P.M., Sunday, October 15, 2017, at the Winfield Funeral Home of Knoxville. Catherine’s family will be greeting friends Sunday from 12:00 p.m. until service time. A private family burial will be held at Bellefountaine Cemetery in Tracy. Catherine was born March 28, 1931 on a farm in rural Oskaloosa, Iowa, the daughter of William Riley and Bessie (Edwards) Chilcote. Catherine attended country school and graduated from Oskaloosa High School, Class of 1948. On September 18, 1948 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa, Catherine and Thomas Hubert Havener were united in marriage. Tom and Catherine were blessed with 65 years of marriage and three children: Joan, Joyce and Norman. Catherine was a homemaker and mother all her life. She was a 4H leader for many years and she had enjoyed making ceramics and playing bingo. For many years she quilted with her sisters she was a talented and skilled seamstress. Catherine was a devoted friend to many and she loved and looked forward to coffee time at Hardees. Catherine will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Catherine is survived by her children, Joan (Allen) Anderson of Cedar Rapids, Joyce (Dean) Gillaspie of Knoxville, and Norman (Ann) Havener of Arizona; many grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. Catherine is also survived by three brothers, Don (Edna) Chilcote of Belle Plaine, Harry (Jean) Chilcote of Belle Plaine, and Charles Chilcote and Dave Ohlson of Florida; three sisters, Helen Towns of Barnes City, Violet (Bob) Jones of Oskaloosa, and Virginia (Todd) Harp of Moravia; one sister-in-law Beverly Chilcote of Belle Plaine; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Bessie Chilcote; her husband of 65 years Thomas “Tom” Havener and her brother Dale Chilcote. A memorial has been established in Catherine’s name to the Hearthstone - Jefferson Place of Pella. Condolences may be sent to www.winfieldfh.com.
